Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals subdued start; Asian markets mixed

Indian benchmark indices are likely to witness a muted opening on September 16, tracking GIFT Nifty, which was trading marginally higher at around 23,223.50 in early trade.

The domestic equity markets ended lower for the second consecutive session on September 15, amid heightened volatility, with selling pressure seen across most sectors, while IT stocks bucked the trend.

Investor sentiment remains cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s policy decision. Elevated crude oil prices and rising US bond yields are also likely to keep pressure on market sentiment.

On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 74003.82 down by -777.94 points or by -1.04 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23118.6 down by -279.5 points or by -1.19 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were trading on a mixed note as investors anticipate a rate hike by the US Fed amid concerns about price pressure due to firm energy prices. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 0.19 per cent, while South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.25 per cent.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 fell 0.63 per cent and 0.45 per cent, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 0.78 per cent lower.
