Post-Session: Markets trim gains on Mideast tensions; Sensex rises 150 pts

Equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty on Tuesday gave up most of their sharp intra-day gains due to the emergence of profit-taking as investors turned cautious amid reports of a ceasefire violation between Iran and Israel.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 82055.11 up by 158.32 points or by 0.19 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25044.35 up by 72.45 points or by 0.29 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 83018.16 and intraday low of 81900.12 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25317.7 and intraday low of 24999.7

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1389.15,+2.58%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 154.80,+1.54%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2216.70,+1.46%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11579.20,+1.16%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 2013.95,+0.82%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 285.90,-1.52%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 831.85,-1.02%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 330.60,-0.93%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12610.50,-0.72%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1691.50,-0.69%), among others.

Metal index was at 30910.39 up by 293.95 points or by 0.96%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 130.75,+3.44%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 69.46,+2.13%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 154.80,+1.54%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 924.60,+1.46%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 669.55,+1.19%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4357 , shares advanced were 2742 while 1446 shares declined and 169 were unchanged.
