Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note on May 16, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 25,181 earlier this morning.
On May 15, the indices closed slightly higher after a volatile session, failing to sustain early gains. While banking stocks remained under pressure, sectors like IT, media, metals, and realty lent support at lower levels.
Investor sentiment on Friday—the final trading day of the week—may be influenced by strong FII inflows, Q4 earnings, mixed global cues, and remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the India-U.S. trade deal.
On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 82530.74 up by 1200.18 points or by 1.48 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25062.1 up by 395.2 points or by 1.6 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were mixed on Friday as investors evaluated Japan’s latest GDP figures and looked ahead to more economic data releases from across the region. Nikkei edged down 0.5 per cent, while the broader Topix index slipped 0.2 per cent. This comes after data showed Japan’s economy shrank 0.2 per cent quarter-on-quarter (Q-o-Q) for the first quarter of the year.
Elsewhere, ASX 200 advanced 0.8per cent, while Kospi was flat with positive bias. Investors also await GDP reports from Hong Kong and Malaysia, due later in the day.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 climbed for a fourth straight session, gaining 0.41 per cent, buoyed by optimism after the US and China agreed to temporarily reduce tariff rates. The Dow Jones added 0.65 per cent while Nasdaq lagged, dipping 0.18 per cent.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 15095.05 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 386.38 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 14164.50 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1143.69 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 930.55 Crore and Rs. -757.31
