Maruti Suzuki India has commissioned its first 300 kW Green Hydrogen (GH2) electrolyser plant on a pilot basis at its manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana.

The green hydrogen produced at the plant will be blended with natural gas and used as process fuel in manufacturing operations. The facility will also utilise surplus solar power generated at the Manesar plant during holidays to produce and store hydrogen for subsequent use.

Based on the experience from the pilot project, Maruti Suzuki plans to scale up green hydrogen adoption across its manufacturing facilities in Haryana and Gujarat.

The company is pursuing multiple clean-energy initiatives, including solar power, biogas, compressed biogas (CBG) and battery energy storage systems. Maruti Suzuki is targeting a reduction in its manufacturing carbon footprint from around 615,000 tonnes currently to 266,000 tonnes by FY31.

The company is also setting up a 10 TPD biogas plant at its Kharkhoda facility, while a 1 MWh Battery Energy Storage System has already been commissioned there. Its board has also approved four CBG projects with a budget of Rs 5,610 million.

The green hydrogen pilot marks another step in Maruti Suzuki’s efforts to expand cleaner energy sources and improve energy efficiency across its manufacturing operations.
