Parliament on Thursday passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to restrict the powers of states to levy taxes on mineral rights and mineral-bearing lands.

The Lok Sabha had approved the legislation on Wednesday, while the Rajya Sabha passed it on Thursday.

With approval from both Houses of Parliament, the legislative process for the bill has been completed.
