Grasim Industries Ltd. has inaugurated the first phase of its CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride) resin manufacturing facility at Vilayat, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in its specialty chemicals business expansion.
The development follows the company's earlier agreements with Lubrizol Manufacturing India Private Ltd for the production of CPVC resin in India and the construction of what is planned to be the world's largest single-site CPVC resin manufacturing facility.
The newly inaugurated Phase 1 facility has a planned production capacity of approximately 50,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA). It forms part of the larger 100,000 MTPA CPVC resin project, which is being developed in phases at the Vilayat site.
The company stated that while the plant has now been inaugurated, commercial production has not yet commenced. Grasim will provide a further update once commercial operations begin.
The project is expected to strengthen domestic CPVC resin manufacturing capabilities, reduce dependence on imports, and support growing demand from India's plumbing, construction, and industrial sectors.
