Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has secured a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project, marking the company’s entry into South America and further expanding its global marine services portfolio.
The contract was awarded to APSEZ’s step-down subsidiary, The Adani Harbour International FZCO, in partnership with Argentina-based Meridian Group, following a global competitive tender conducted by Southern Energy S.A. (SESA). The development strengthens APSEZ’s presence in international energy logistics and highlights its growing expertise in specialised marine operations.
Under the agreement, the consortium will provide comprehensive marine services for the LNG project, including tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics and supply support, as well as crew transfer services. The project will be supported by a fleet comprising four high-specification tugboats, one anchor handling tug supply vessel, and one crew boat.
Commenting on the development, APSEZ Whole-time Director and CEO Ashwani Gupta said the project reflects the company’s increasing capability to support large-scale energy infrastructure projects across global markets. He added that APSEZ’s extensive marine operations experience, combined with strong local partnerships, will help build reliable maritime ecosystems and facilitate emerging energy trade corridors.
Argentina is positioning itself as a significant LNG supplier, with agreements in place to export up to 10 million tonnes of LNG annually to India from 2027. The Southern Energy FLNG project, being developed by SESA—a joint venture between Golar LNG and Pan American Energy (PAE)—is expected to play a key role in supporting these exports.
Located in the San Mat¡as Gulf in Argentina’s R¡o Negro Province, the project will process natural gas from the General San Martin pipeline aboard the FLNG vessel Hilli Episeyo. Commercial operations are expected to commence in September 2027. In its first phase, the project is projected to produce 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually, equivalent to around 28 cargoes per year, making it Argentina’s first operational LNG export project.
The contract will be executed through Meridian Transportes Mar¡timos S.A., a 51:49 joint venture between Adani Harbour International FZCO and Meridian Group.
