L&T secures major orders from SAIL for Minerals & Metals Projects

Larsen & Toubro on Friday said its Minerals & Metals (M&M) business has secured major orders from Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and other customers in the domestic metals sector.

The orders pertain to EPC projects and supply of equipment, reinforcing L&T’s long-standing association with SAIL in executing large-scale metallurgical projects across India. The partnership has played a key role in supporting capacity expansion, modernisation and sustainable development in the steel sector.

As part of SAIL’s modernisation programme, L&T has been awarded the complete engineering, procurement and installation package for key process units at the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal, where crude steel capacity is being expanded from 2.5 MTPA to 6.5 MTPA. The scope includes the Coke Oven Battery, By-Product Plant, Basic Oxygen Furnace, along with specialised material handling systems, forming the core of the new steel complex.

Separately, L&T has also bagged an order for setting up Sinter Plant #2 at SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand, which is undergoing a major upstream expansion.

In addition, the M&M business has secured multiple orders for specialised material handling equipment, including stacker reclaimers and wagon tipplers, from various clients across India.

Commenting on the development, D K Sen, Advisor to CMD (Development Projects & Minerals & Metals), said the orders underscore L&T’s capability to deliver world-class metallurgical infrastructure with a focus on engineering excellence, safety and sustainability.

T Kumaresan, Senior Vice President & Head – Minerals & Metals, said the wins reaffirm L&T’s expertise in executing complex, technology-intensive projects within challenging timelines.
