Copper prices climbed for a fifth straight session on Friday, scaling a new all-time high of Rs 1,249.95 per kg in futures trade, buoyed by strong global cues and tightening supply conditions.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), copper futures for December delivery surged Rs 93.35, or 8.07 per cent, to reach a record Rs 1,249.95 per kg. The January contract outperformed, rising Rs 105.5, or 9 per cent, to touch a lifetime peak of Rs 1,277.95 per kg.
Overall, copper prices have advanced 12.43 per cent, or Rs 138.25, over the past five sessions, up from Rs 1,111.70 per kg recorded on December 18, underscoring strong momentum driven by global market strength.
