WABAG wins major ADB-funded DBO contract from Nepal’s Melamchi Water Supply Development Board

VA TECH WABAG, a leading Indian multinational in water technology, has secured a significant repeat order from Nepal’s Melamchi Water Supply Development Board (MWSDB). The contract involves the Design, Build and Operate (DBO) of a modern 255 MLD Sundarijal Water Treatment Plant in the Kathmandu Valley, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The EPC portion of the project will be completed within 36 months, followed by five years of operations and maintenance, highlighting WABAG’s end-to-end project capabilities. The new facility, to be built next to the existing Melamchi plant constructed by WABAG in 2017, will treat water sourced from the Melamchi, Yangri and Larke rivers, adhering to Nepal’s National Drinking Water Quality Standards and improving water security for Kathmandu’s expanding population.

Commenting on the order, Arvind Dullu, Regional Business Head – South and Southeast Asia, expressed gratitude to MWSDB, stating that the repeat award reflects the customer’s continued trust in WABAG’s technical expertise. He added that this major contract strengthens the company’s footprint in Nepal and reinforces its leadership position in the South Asian water sector.
