The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) to collaborate on research, joint studies, and technical contributions in advanced telecom technologies and global standardisation efforts.
Signed on November 7, 2025, the MoU establishes a framework for cooperation in developing India-specific telecom standards and exploring future technologies such as 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), NGN, and VoIP.
Under the partnership, TEC and IIT Bombay will jointly contribute to international standardisation bodies like ITU and 3GPP while working on indigenous research in areas including AI-driven telecom applications, core network development, and low-cost satellite communication systems for rural connectivity.
The collaboration aims to strengthen India’s participation in global telecom standardisation, promote indigenous R&D, and advance the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by fostering innovation and self-reliance in critical communication technologies.
