India Sends First Export Consignment of Fortified Rice Kernel from Chhattisgarh to Costa Rica

APEDA, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has facilitated the first-ever export of 12 metric tonnes of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK) from Chhattisgarh to Costa Rica, marking a key milestone in India’s fortified food exports.

The move supports the government’s Kuposhan Mukt Bharat initiative under Poshan Abhiyan, which promotes the distribution of fortified rice to tackle malnutrition across the country. The export highlights India’s growing capability in food fortification and its expanding role in global nutrition supply chains.

APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev said the development strengthens India’s agri-export basket while reinforcing its commitment to science-backed nutrition solutions. The Rice Exporters Association of Chhattisgarh confirmed plans to explore more international markets for fortified rice products.

Fortified Rice Kernel is produced by blending rice flour with micronutrients like iron, folic acid and vitamin B12, and is mixed with regular rice to enhance nutritional value.

This consignment reflects a coordinated effort between APEDA, the Chhattisgarh government, and private exporters to boost the state’s presence in global agri-trade.
