Grasim Industries Ltd announced the commencement of commercial production at its Birla Opus Paints plant in Kharagpur, West Bengal, effective October 15, 2025.

The new facility has an installed capacity of 230 million litres per annum (MLPA), comprising 180 MLPA of distemper and water-based paints, 20 MLPA of solvent-based paints, and 30 MLPA of colorants. The company noted that while the resin manufacturing block at the Kharagpur plant is yet to be commissioned, resin is currently being sourced from other Birla Opus units for the production of solvent-based paints.

With this launch, all six of Grasim’s greenfield paint plants have now commenced commercial operations, taking the total installed capacity of decorative paints under the “Birla Opus” brand to 1,332 MLPA.

The expanded capacity will cater to the domestic decorative paints market, further strengthening Birla Opus’s nationwide presence and supporting Grasim’s ambition to emerge as a major player in India’s paints industry.
