Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, is on an official visit to the United Kingdom from June 18–19, 2025, aimed at bolstering India–UK trade relations and advancing negotiations on the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
The visit highlights India’s strategic intent to deepen economic engagement with the UK, in line with the recent commitment by the Prime Ministers of both nations to fast-track the conclusion of the India–UK FTA.
During his visit, Shri Goyal will meet UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, to assess the progress of the FTA talks and outline a concrete, time-bound path for its finalisation. He will also hold discussions with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, on macroeconomic cooperation, financial collaboration, and boosting bilateral investments.
In addition, the Minister will engage with Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy, to explore new opportunities in creative industries and innovation-led sectors.
Shri Goyal will feature prominently at the India Global Forum (IGF), participating in key sessions such as the Mainstage Plenary, the Future Frontiers Forum, and a focused roundtable titled ‘From Agreement to Action: UK–India FTA’. These platforms will gather global industry leaders, investors, and policymakers to discuss the evolving India–UK economic corridor and the far-reaching impact of the proposed trade agreement.
The visit will also involve high-level engagements with top CEOs and industry stakeholders from sectors like shipping, fintech, logistics, and advanced manufacturing, aimed at expanding commercial ties and encouraging cross-border investments.
At a crucial juncture in India–UK relations, Shri Goyal’s visit is expected to foster deeper trust, unlock new avenues of collaboration, and reinforce the shared commitment to sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
