Som Distilleries launches Rs 600 cr Greenfield Project in UP to boost national presence

Som Distilleries & Breweries Ltd., a prominent player in India’s alcoholic beverages sector, has initiated a major expansion with the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony for its new ?600 crore greenfield project in Khimsepur, Farrukhabad district, Uttar Pradesh.

The upcoming facility, spread over 40 acres of land allocated by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), will include a brewery, distillery, and state-of-the-art manufacturing units under its subsidiary, Woodpecker Greenagri Nutrients.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by company leadership, including Mr. Deepak Arora, CEO of Som Group of Companies, marking the formal commencement of construction. Designed to be one of the largest single-location alco-beverage manufacturing complexes in India, the facility will boast a bottling capacity of over 12 million beer cases annually. With a portfolio of more than five beer brands, the plant will integrate brewing, distillation, bottling, storage, and maturation operations.

“Farrukhabad is more than a strategic location—it represents growth, opportunity, and the spirit of enterprise,” said Deepak Arora. “Through this project, we not only aim to scale up our production capabilities but also create 700 to 800 jobs, supporting the economic development of the region.”

Arora emphasized that the project aligns with the company’s vision of becoming a truly pan-India player. “Uttar Pradesh, with its large population, strong consumption base, and investor-friendly policies, is an ideal partner for our next phase of growth,” he noted.

The facility will incorporate cutting-edge, ESG-compliant technologies, including Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) and advanced membrane systems, ensuring sustainability through water conservation, energy efficiency, and responsible industrial practices.

This greenfield venture is expected to significantly boost employment, local sourcing, and supply chain activities, contributing to Uttar Pradesh's broader goal of attracting high-impact industrial investments.

J.K. Arora, Chairman of Som Group, added, “This initiative reflects our confidence in the long-term potential of India’s beverage industry. We are proud to collaborate with the state of Uttar Pradesh as we embark on this transformative journey.”

With construction now underway, Som Distilleries & Breweries Ltd. reinforces its commitment to innovation, quality, and a robust national footprint in India’s dynamic beverage market.
