Post-Session: Sensex dips 38pts, Nifty at 17K after choppy day

Equity markets closed lower for a 4-straight day on Tuesday as global growth concerns remained on investors' minds.

Among sectors, defensives rose in trades today with the Nifty IT, FMCG, and Pharma indices advancing between 0.6 per cent and 0.9 per cent. On the downside, the Nifty Metal, and Financial Services indices fell 0.89 per cent each.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 57107.52 down by -37.7 points or by -0.07 % and then NSE Nifty was at 17007.4 down by -8.9 points or by -0.05 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 57704.57 and intraday low of 56950.52 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 17176.45 and intraday low of 16942.35

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 204.90,+1.81%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1164.40,+1.32%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 4185.70,+1.29%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 918.25,+1.25%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 18674.80,+1.19%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 97.60,-2.25%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 2606.95,-1.79%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1801.25,-1.52%), State Bank of India (Rs. 536.25,-1.39%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1022.50,-1.08%), among others.

Oil&Gas index was at 18696.55 up by 229.76 points or by 1.24%. Indraprastha Gas Ltd. (Rs. 422.75,+6.81%), Gujarat Gas Ltd. (Rs. 516.55,+5.83%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 310.65,+1.85%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 86.30,+1.59%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 66.80,+1.14%),.
