Pre-Session: Markets likely to start in green amid mixed global cues

The Sensex and Nifty indices are looking to snap the losing streak of last four days on Tuesday amid mixed cues.

At 8:00 am, the SGX Nifty futures gained strength and were around 80 points higher at 17,115 levels.

Among stocks, Sterlite Technologies will be in focus as its subsidiary Sterlite Global Venture (Mauritius) has agreed to sell its entire stake (amounting to 80 per cent of the entire share capital) held in Impact Data Solutions Limited, UK to Hexatronic Group AB.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 57145.22 down by -953.7 points or by -1.64 % and then NSE Nifty was at 17016.3 down by -311.05 points or by -1.8 %.

On the global front,Wall Street slid deeper into a bear market on Monday, with the S&P 500 and Dow closing lower as investors fretted that the Federal Reserve's aggressive campaign against inflation could throw the US economy into a sharp downturn.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.11 percent to end at 29,260.81 points, while the S&P 500 lost 1.03 percent to 3,655.04. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.6 percent to 10,802.92.

Shares in the Asia-Pacific were higher on Tuesday after a sharp fall on Monday. The Nikkei 225 in Japan rose 0.65 percent, and the Topix index gained 0.66 percent. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.46 percent. South Korea’s Kospi was marginally up, and the Kosdaq gained 0.64 percent.

MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was about flat.

Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 2320655 with a total turnover of Rs. 159131.06 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 112592322 with a total turnover of Rs. 10400979.39 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5430830 with a total turnover of Rs. 397260.32 Crore.

The FIIs on 26/09/2022 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 6283.47 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 234.56 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 8883.51 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 472.82 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -2600.04 Crore and Rs. -238.26
